Earlier this week, our colleagues Nicole and Mar\u00eda Teresa were in the Normandie region of France to support the first in\u2011person workshop of the PPSF \u2013 Preserving the Past, Securing the Future programme, organized by the LRE Foundation<\/a> in partnership with Juno Beach Center <\/a>and the Fondazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The workshop brought together museum and memorial\u2011site professionals from Poland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, France<\/strong> and<\/strong> Germany<\/strong>, all committed to integrating sustainable development into their institutions. Prior to the on\u2011site sessions, participants completed three online training modules introducing the foundations of sustainable management for memory tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Day 1 \u2013 Learning from the Juno Beach Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The first day took place at the Juno Beach Centre, which served as a living example of how sustainability can be translated into daily operations. After a welcome session and a recap of the online modules, participants explored the Centre\u2019s CSR strategy, action plan, and practical initiatives through a guided tour of both the museum and Juno Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This exchange highlighted how a clear strategic vision \u2013 <\/strong>paired with pragmatic, achievable actions \u2013 <\/strong>can make sustainability tangible and meaningful for visitors as well as staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Day 2 \u2013 Moving from Concepts to Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The second day focused on applying sustainability in participants\u2019 own contexts. Each professional presented three concrete actions<\/strong> their institution will implement by June 2026, addressing themes such as resource efficiency, inclusive visitor experience, interpretation practices, and long\u2011term management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These peer exchanges helped participants refine their priorities, identify quick wins, and plan longer\u2011term improvements. As one participant shared, the workshop enabled a better understanding of actions \u201cthat can be implemented immediately, as well as those that contribute to a longer strategic journey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n What Comes Next<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The PPSF programme continues with several upcoming activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Participants left inspired by the Juno Beach Centre\u2019s balance of ambition and pragmatism.
