It requires strong institutions, a shared destination identity and effective cooperation between the public and private sectors. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Institutional strengthening of the Northern Chamber of Industries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the starting point for a three-day workshop in Jaffna, facilitated by <strong>Maeve and Matthias<\/strong>, on behalf of the <strong>OAV \u2013 German Asia-Pacific Business Association<\/strong> , in cooperation with the <strong>Northern Chamber of Industries (NCI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together with NCI, we explored how the organisation can strengthen its position as a central private-sector voice for tourism in the Northern Province \u2013 representing tourism businesses, offering relevant services, building strategic partnerships and helping to coordinate the sector. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this institutional foundation, the discussion moved towards the identity of the Northern Province as a destination: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What makes it distinctive?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which experiences have the greatest potential?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And how can they be turned into a coherent and compelling destination story?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussions made it clear that the region has a wealth of authentic attractions which could be promoted more effectively and linked together in future.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Public-private dialogue as a driver of development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop culminated in a broader exchange with <strong>30 representatives from across the tourism<\/strong> sector. Together, they developed ideas for a structured <strong>Public\u2013Private Dialogue (PPD). <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can facilitate regular communication, collaborative problem-solving and coordinated action between tourism businesses, government institutions and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Concrete results and next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A central lesson learnt was clear: <strong>institutional development, destination branding and public\u2013private cooperation cannot be addressed separately<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A strong brand needs committed stakeholders who bring it to life, while sustainable tourism development requires trusted platforms that transform individual ideas into collective action. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop produced tangible outputs:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a clearer future role for NCI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>initial elements of a shared destination narrative<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the identification of promising tourism opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promising tourism experiences and practical options for establishing a tourism PPD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most importantly, it created momentum for continued collaboration and a shared commitment to move from discussion towards implementation. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Northern Province still has considerable untapped tourism potential.
