We are delighted to present a new, future-oriented project: WE4D – Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa, commissioned by GIZ and TUI Care Foundation. In cooperation with Tierranjani Africa Ltd, mascontour supports as lead partner Technical Vocational Education and Training of the sustainable tourism sector in Kenya (Coastal Region) and Tanzania (Zanzibar) with a strong focus on women, young people and people with disabilities.
The tourism sector in East Africa has enormous potential, but at the same time is characterized by a shortage of skilled workers, insufficiently qualified young talent and limited employment prospects for women. WE4D addresses this issue by combining vocational training with ecological transformation, thus creating concrete employment opportunities in an increasingly green tourism market.
The project focuses on a clear three-faceted approach:
Learning – Qualifying for the future
mascontour supports the development and adaptation of practice-oriented qualification measures for professions in sustainable tourism, for example in the areas of eco-guiding, green hospitality or circular tourism offerings.
The training courses are conducted in a ‘lite dual system’ with a 30:70 ratio of theory to practice, supplemented by e-learning elements and following internships in hotels, lodges or tourism companies.
Earning – transitions to real employment
The goal is not the number of participants, but their actual integration into good and green jobs. Together with local companies, we will organize job fairs and matching formats and support businesses in establishing gender-sensitive and inclusive HR practices.
The aim is not only to qualify women and young people, but also to get them into employment or support them in setting up their own green micro-enterprises.
Greening – transformation in the sector
A core element of WE4D is the systematic anchoring of sustainable practices. The curricula of local vocational training centers will be permanently enhanced to include green skills. This is creating a future-oriented training landscape that will produce qualified specialists for sustainable tourism in the long term.
Strong local partnerships
WE4D builds on a broad network of partners, including public and private TVET centers, local tourism associations, NGOs, hotel groups and eco-lodges. mascontour’s role is to bring these actors together and develop effective, sustainable and inclusive training and employment models. We look forward to working with our partners and sharing the success stories of the coming months and years.
