mascontour presents forward-looking tourism development concept for the Göltzschtal Bridge site

The Göltzschtal Bridge in the northern Vogtland region, the largest brick bridge in the world, is a monumental masterpiece of 19th-century engineering. To fully unlock the largely untapped tourism potential of this unique industrial heritage site, mascontour – on behalf of the city of Reichenbach (Vogtland) and in collaboration with an architecture and landscape planning firm – has developed an integrated tourism development concept.

Under the guiding vision “GöltzschExperience 360° – Experience the view, feel the history, embrace the adventure,” the site is set to be transformed by 2031 into a year-round attraction for experiences, education, and events with supra-regional appeal.

Key milestones achieved: presentations and press conference

In recent weeks, the project has reached important milestones. The concept developed by mascontour was successfully presented to the municipal councils of Netzschkau and Reichenbach. It also received positive feedback at the state level, where it was presented to representatives of the Saxon Ministries of Science, Culture and Tourism, as well as Infrastructure and Regional Development. Last week, the project was officially introduced to the public during a press conference.

Three core components for a holistic experience

The usage concept developed by mascontour combines heritage conservation, tourism development, and the leisure economy through three central components:

  1. Göltzschtal Bridge Visitor Center: The main arrival hub offering information, gastronomy, visitor services, event spaces, a shop, and innovative digital interpretation formats.
  2. Landscape Park: An experiential trail with themed stations, complemented by high-quality recreation areas along the Göltzsch River, a family adventure playground, and a large event space.
  3. Zipline attraction: A high-impact adventure and viewpoint experience with an observation tower, providing entirely new perspectives of the bridge, including a ride through its lower arch—designed to attract younger target groups.

The concept is further supported by new pedestrian and bridge connections, as well as private investments in the surrounding area, such as a new motorhome and camping site.

Sustainable impulses for the Vogtland region

With an estimated investment volume of approximately €25.3 to €30 million, GöltzschExperience 360° represents a key anchor project for the region. Its public value is clear: strengthening regional value creation, positioning Vogtland as an innovative hub for industrial heritage, creating year-round offers for visitors and residents, and raising awareness of this historic landmark.

For mascontour, the project has now been completed. We would like to sincerely thank all partners involved—especially project manager Robert Friedrich, the mayor of Netzschkau Mike Purfürst, and the steering committee—for the constructive and creative collaboration. We wish all stakeholders great success in the implementation of this outstanding flagship project.
