Following the successful implementation in Kenya, the program to promote women’s employment as part of the green transition is moving to Zanzibar.
WE4D improves the professional and economic prospects of women in sub-Saharan African countries while supporting businesses and institutions in becoming more sustainable. The initiative links employment promotion with gender equality, inclusion and environmental and social sustainability.
In Kenya, the program had a significant impact: instructors in the hospitality sector were trained to integrate sustainability into their curricula, students gained theoretical and practical skills through hands‑on courses and are now beginning their internships. Public‑private partnerships ensured that training content reflects the evolving needs of the industry.
Key metrics from Kenya:
- 346 graduates
- 96.6% retention rate
- 84% women & 98% young people
Next stop: Zanzibar
Building on the experiences, WE4D will continue in Zanzibar until August 2027. From Kenya to Zanzibar – the journey toward a greener, more inclusive future continues.
